# Introduction

Nexafin offers two ways to access your financial data programmatically:

## Public API

A REST API for building custom integrations, dashboards, and automations with your bank accounts and transactions. Authenticate with API keys and access endpoints for transactions, bank accounts, categories, and balances.

{% hint style="info" %}
We are working to extend the public API to add more options and capabilities. If you need a specific endpoint, [email us](mailto:support@nexafin.com).
{% endhint %}

**Available endpoints:**

* [x] Update, delete and list transactions
* [x] Create transactions
* [x] List categories
* [x] List, edit, create and delete bank accounts
* [x] Accounts balances

## MCP (Model Context Protocol)

Connect AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT to your Nexafin data. Ask questions about your accounts, transactions, bills, and spending patterns through natural conversation. Authenticates via OAuth 2.1 — no API keys needed.

**Available tools:**

* [x] Account balances and net worth
* [x] Transaction search and filtering
* [x] Recurring bills and subscriptions
* [x] Spending analysis by category

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://nexafin.gitbook.io/api/readme.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
